How Many Disabled Americans Are There?
Imagine having the entire population of Florida and the combination with the entire population of California. That is a lot of people. In fact, it is more than 54 million people and 19 percent of the population of the United States or in other words, one out of five Americans. According to the United States Census Bureau, it is the same amount of people who reported at least some degree of disability in 2005. The figures from the census were definitely on the last census2002nd
Although not found all the people reporting disabilities too disabled, nearly 35 million, in fact classified as severely disabled. Moreover, nearly 11 million people with disabilities who were aged 6 years and older are needed help with daily activities, such as taking a shower or bath and movement inside the apartment.
The census also found that many disabled people still keep jobs. In the age group of men 21 to 64, almost 46 percent werestill employed. Thirty-one percent of people with severe disabilities were employed, and 75 percent of people with disabilities were employed as a heavy not labeled.
While many people automatically think of physical boundaries, as in a wheelchair, when they think of disability, more than 16 million people with disabilities were classified as problems with mental functioning, emotional and cognitive function. This group of people with disabilitieseven those who are strong, anxious or depressed, and those who need to focus on issues dealing with stress, and functioning in social situations.
The census showed that increases the probability of disability with age. About 18 million adults aged over 64 were shut down in 2005. Selected from this 18 million, almost 13 million were due to their severe disability. Increases for the 80 years of age and older, the probability of Seventy-one percent of people over 80 wereDisabled, and 56 percent of respondents were severely disabled.
Although it is likely that older Americans will be disabled, there were still many children with disabilities participated in the census. Parents reported a whopping 475,000 old children with disabilities aged 3 to 5 years and 228,000 children under 3 years, or were registered as disabled.
